Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
